J.F씨 : 기꺼이 실어 드리겠습니다. 몇 년 전에 제 칼럼에 실었던 것으로 제가 좋아하는 것들 중에 하나입니다. 저자를 알 수 없는 것이 유감이지요.

즐거우려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 비참한 기분이 된다.

사람들을 사귀려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 말다툼이 벌어진다.

세련되려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 웃음거리가 된다.

잠들려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 잠은 못 이루고 녹초가 돼 버린다.

강해지려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 더 약해진다.

기분을 돋으려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 우울해진다.

약이 되라고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 건강을 해친다.

진정하려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 마음이 흔들린다.

자신을 얻으려 술을 마시지만, 마시다 보면 두려워진다.

말을 잘하려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 말이 빨라지고 조리가 없어진다.

문제를 해소하려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 문제가 더 복잡해진다.

천국에 오른 느낌을 얻으려고 술을 마시지만, 마시다보면 지옥에 빠진 기분이 된다.

Dear J.F : With Pleasure. It appeared in my column several years ago and is one　　　　　　 of my favorites. Unfortunately, I have been unable to identify the author.

 

Positive negative.

 

We drank for joy and became miserable.

We drank for sociability and became argumentative.

We drank for sophistication and became obnoxious.

We drank for friendship and became enemies

We drank to help us sleep and awakened exhausted.

We drank to gain strength and it made us weaker.

We drank for exhilaration and ended up depressed.

We drank for "medical reasons" and acquired health problems.

We drank to help us calm down and ended up with the shakes.

We drank to get more confidence and became afraid.

We drank to make conversation flow more easily, and the words came out slurred and incoherent.

We drank to diminish our problems and saw them multiply.

We drank to feel heavenly and ended up feeling like hell.
